Wood is substantially used in household and office furniture -- 25 percent of office furniture is made of wood. The United States imports more than $6 billion worth of household wood furniture (more than 60 percent of all household furniture is wood). Industrialized countries' demand for wood furniture is driving the illegal logging of forests, as consumers buy valuable species such as mahogany.
