Greatly reducing wood consumption can be painless, cost-effective and beneficial to the environment.

First, decrease consumption, aiming for a minimum 20% reduction. Next, increase alternatives which can replace 60% or more of all wood products. Next, maximize the useful life of wood products by reusing wood (a "wood savings" of 15% or more). Only then buy new FSC-certified wood products for your remaining wood needs.
