Alternatives - FSC Certified |
When new wood must be purchased, consumers should specify Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified wood. This should be pursued only after greatly reducing consumption of wood products, purchasing alternatives such as recycled and ag-based products and reusing wood such as salvaged lumber and used furniture. The FSC label indicates that forests have been responsibly managed. While other certification schemes exist, the FSC is the one supported by most major environmental groups.
